The Museum’s Statement of Purpose
To preserve and promote the history, folklore, literature, music and traditions of the Clan Macpherson, its ancestral homeland of Badenoch and the Scottish Highlands, by displaying the items entrusted to its care and sharing their story with local and global audiences.
The Clan Macpherson Museum & Website Data Privacy Notice
The trustees of the Clan Macpherson Museum Trust take their responsibility for the security of personal data for all who may communicate directly with the Clan Museum or its website. The directions outlined in the Data Protection Act 2018 are followed. The personal data of individuals, such as the ‘Friends’, ‘Guardians’, ‘Adopters of an Artefact’ and ’Donors’, will only be retained whilst it is extant and legally required for accountancy purposes.
The Clan Macpherson Museum is a registered data controller under the Data Protection Act 2018, with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Registration No: Z159876X. A CCTV system is in operation to monitor and collect visual images. These images are overwritten within seven days and used solely for security to assist in preventing and detecting crime. If an alleged crime has taken place, these images will be shared with the police.
The retention of personal data for the provenance of artefacts donated to the Clan Museum is a legitimate interest and legally allowed. It will not be shared without the donor’s consent. Likewise, the personal data of artefacts given on loan for display purposes will not be shared without the lender’s consent.
No personal data is included in our visitor survey, which we encourage you to complete, and is used to monitor our performance and improve the Museum for future visitors.
If you are a clan member or have a connection with the museum, we may request your consent to take a photograph of you in the museum for the museum’s social media channels.

You have the right to complain to the ICO regarding your personal data by the Clan Macpherson Museum Trust by contacting the ICO on its website at www.ico.org.uk or by letter to Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
